Ms. Rohini Nilekani- Chairperson 

Rohini Nilekani is the Chairperson and founder of Arghyam, which she setup with a private endowment in 2001. An ex-journalist, a writer and a philanthropist, Rohini has been deeply involved in development issues for many years now. She has co-founded Pratham Books, a non-profit publishing enterprise to produce high quality, low cost books for children in several Indian languages. She is on the Board of Directors of Pratham India Education Initiative (PIEI). She is on the Board of Sanghamithra Rural Financial Services and has funded its first microcredit program for the urban poor. She was the Chairperson for Akshara Foundation, the goal of which is "Every child in school and learning well", from July 2002 to July 2008.

II. The Team

  

Ms. Sunita Nadhamuni - Chief Executive Officer

Sunita has been the passionate CEO of Arghyam driving towards the vision of access to safe and sustainable water for all. She has over 15 years of experience in the software sector. But more than that she brings to Arghyam her deep involvement in development sector issues since 1990. She constantly draws from the experiences of all kinds of practitioners in the water sector – researchers, NGOs, academicians, government officers, in order to inform and raise the level of the activities at Arghyam. Attention to detail, striving for excellence and efficient leadership come naturally to her.


  

Mr. S. Manohar Rao - Manager, Projects

Manohar has worked on a variety of projects in the water sector for the past 15 years ranging from watershed development to irrigation water management to rural drinking water and sanitation. He is managing the field based projects supported by Arghyam. He is Arghyam’s “Man on the ground”. His understanding of the NGO sector and practical realities of implementation of projects are critical to Arghyam’s grant making activities.

 

  

Mr. S. Vishwanath - Advisor

Vishwanath is a Civil Engineer and Urban and Regional Planner by qualification. By occupation, he is a Writer and Practitioner of sustainable water management systems. He also runs a blog/youtube/website (www.rainwaterclub.org) that is dedicated to rainwater harvesting practices. His contribution to Arghyam is enormous in shaping its strategies and principles.

 

  

Mr. Ravi Narayanan - Advisor

Ravi Narayanan has had twenty years experience in the corporate sector in engineering and technology companies in India and the UK and later twenty years in the not for profit sector working for international development organizations. He worked in various capacities as India Director, Director of International Operations and Asia Director for ActionAid and then as Chief Executive of WaterAid. Currently a Vice Chair of the Asia Pacific Water Forum and a member of  the Technical Expert Group on water and sanitation set up by the Government of India, he has been a member of the World Panel on Financing Water Infrastructure (the Camdessus Panel) and the UN Millennium Task Force on Water and Sanitation.

 

  

Ms. Nirmala Janardhan - Administrator

Nirmala makes life comfortable for everyone at Arghyam through her systematic approach in office management. She wears multiple hats as Office Manager, Accounts-in-Charge, Secretary to the CEO and the like. She enjoys working in the not-for-profit sector.

 

  

Mr. Vijay Krishna – Manager, India Water Portal

Vijay has 9 years of experience in the software industry after a B.Tech from I.I.T. and a Masters in Physics in the US. He has developed and managed projects in different software domains, both in the US and India, last at Juniper Networks. He has an abiding interest in social/development work and had been involved in informal ways in this kind of work for a long time. With a strong background in the software sector, excellent managerial skills and a passion to work in the development sector, Vijay has been successfully driving the India Water Portal effort for Arghyam.

 

  

Mr. CS Sharada Prasad (CSP) – Project Officer, India Water Portal

CSP comes to Arghyam with about 5 years of experience in the IT. He started his career as a Java developer and his most recent role was as a presales consultant. He is the co-founder of Mukta Foundation, an NPO that works towards streamlining volunteerism. His passion for working in the development sector coupled with his skills from IT is helping him contribute better to Arghyam's objectives. CSP is working with the India Water Portal team and is also managing activities related to technology implementation at Arghyam.

  

Ms. Rimi Goswami - Project Officer, Urban Water

Rimi has done her M. Sc. (Geography) with specialization in Regional Development and Planning, Environmental Hazards and M. Phil. (Geography) with specialization in Natural Hazards and Disasters. She has been working with several government and development sector agencies for the past five years. With a strong research background, Rimi has joined as the Project Officer for the Urban Water Initiative that Arghyam is stepping into. As the initiative is just beginning, her interest in research is vital to compiling a database on the urban water sector in India.

  

Mr. Nagasreenivas K., Manager, Urban Water Initiative

Nagasreenivas is a Civil Engineer with M. E. in Traffic & Urban Engineering. He comes with close to 10 years’ experience in Development Planning and Management Sector. Nagasreenivas brings with him extensive experience in gap analysis and assessment, preparation of project reports, costing and finance planning, which are vital for managing the Urban Water Initiative at Arghyam.

 
  

Mr. K. Nelson Royal, Associate Manager, Projects

Nelson possesses over ten years of experience in development sector, having worked in corporate, consultancy and donor agencies. He has specialized in natural resource management from Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal. He has worked extensively on research and evaluation studies, beneficiary accountability, institutional building, M&E and MIS development. Nelson brings to Arghyam good program management, research and documentation, training, handholding and facilitation skills.

 
  

Mr. Amitangshu Acharya, Projects Officer, Projects

Amitangshu is a developmental analyst by profession. He completed his M.A from Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 2005 and has been actively involved in natural resource management ever since. His areas of interest are participatory action research and ecosystem services. He loves travelling across rural India and learning natural resource wise use from grassroots communities. At Arghyam he is shaping up a groundwater programme and spearheading project coordination in North East. 

 
  
 

Mr. Binayak Das, Research Officer, Research & Advocacy

Binayak Das has been working on water and environmental related issues in the capacity of journalist and researcher for the past 8 years. He is co-author of /Springs of Life, /a comprehensive book on Indian’s water scenario and has written numerous articles and papers related to water. He did his masters in water services management from UNESCO-IHE, a water institute from Delft, Netherlands and post graduation in environment management from IISWBM, Kolkatta. At Arghyam, he is handling the research and advocacy unit.
