Facilitating Community Management Practices for Ensuring Sustainable Domestic Water

 

 

Location – 12 villages in 4 Village Panchayats in Athoor block of Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu.

Summary

This project focuses on two important aspects of rural domestic water supply. First, it focuses on creating a proper use and maintenance system at the community level by sensitizing the water user community; and secondly, it would develop a proper technical and financial management without looking forward to external assistance. This project would help clear the electricity bills by the Panchayats in time by introducing a tariff system so that the funds entitled for Village Panchayat is received and used for common development purposes.

 

Why the Project?

To ensure that the water that is available is managed equitably and sustainably even when water is scarce.

 

Target group

The poor households in the selected 12 villages with a population of about 8000.

 

Activities Planned 

  • Building capacities of the Village Panchayats to support community water management.
  • Formation of water user groups and training them.
  • Providing training to power pump operators and hand pump mechanic.
