Providing Drinking Water to Tribal Villages

 

Location: Dahod and Banswara districts of Gujarat and Rajasthan respectively.

Summary

The proposed model is aspiring to institutionalize a community based water supply system that will ensure perennial water availability to the local habitation by tapping the existing water harvesting structures, for instance masonry check dams that were constructed by NMSWDF in their previous interventions. In this programme, NMSWDF proposes to renovate and construct open dug wells downstream of the already existing check dams.

 

Why the Project? 

  • To ensure safe drinking water supply to tribal habitations through decentralized and autonomous village level system.
  • For building capability of the community to mange their drinking water system.

Target group

The project will benefit approximately 6000 people comprising of about 1000 households in the selected 15 villages.

 

Activities Planned 

  • Working out the detailed costing for installing the RWH system.
  • Working out operation and maintenance mechanism involving the user community for proper management of the system.
  • Spreading awareness about RWH and sanitation among students and also the visitors to the school so that the concept can grow further.
