Providing Decentralized Domestic Water to Households in Abdasa Taluk

 

 

Location:135 villages in Abdasa taluk, Kutch district, Gujarat.

Summary 

In 2005 Sahjeevan collaborated with the Panchayat of Nalia town ( the Taluka capital of 35000 people ) to develop their comprehensive water management plan and develop and recharge their aquifers. Today this town is self sufficient for its domestic water needs. It is proposed that the government of Gujarat, through WASMO will implement the plan in Abdasa Taluk.

 

While the hardware component is funded by WASMO, Arghyam is supporting the social mobilization, technical and institutional capacity building and advocacy for the replication of the concept. The technical monitoring of the programme after the implementation is completed has also been planned.

 

Why the Project?

Build a strong understanding amongst the people in an arid area, of its water potential, and a motivation in its leadership for self dependence in drinking water.

 

Target group

The project will benefit approx. 1,20,000 people living in 135 villages in Abdasa taluk.

 


 Activities Planned

  • Putting in place suitable systems for providing safe & adequate drinking water for all the households in the identified villages.
  • Working out operation and maintenance mechanism involving the user community for proper management of the system.
  • Training and capacity building of the user group.
