School Rain Water Harvesting

 

Location: S.D.M. Mangala Jyothi Integrated School Vamanjoor, Kudupu village, Dakshin Kannada district, Karnataka.

Summary 

The available water facility is not enough to meet the regular water need, especially in winter and summer months. Thus there is an urgent need for drinking water supply. In this connection, Arghyam is supporting the construction of a rainwater harvesting structure in the school.

 

Why This Project?

  • To provide potable drinking water to the students and staff.
  • To create awareness among teachers and students about rain water harvesting.

Target group

The project will benefit approximately 169 physically challenged children, 460 normal children and 56 staff (out of which 5 belong to physically challenged category).

 

Activities Planned:

  • Working out the detailed costing for installing the RWH system.
  • Construction of one lakh liter tank, gutter pipes, filters, hand pump etc.
  • Working out operation and maintenance mechanism involving the user community for proper management of the system.
  • Spreading awareness about RWH and sanitation among students and also the visitors to the school so that the concept can grow further.
