Summary

Cloud Water Campaign was planned to inculcate the habit of adopting rainwater harvesting as a low cost technology with high returns. This is particularly helpful during water stress circumstances at times of floods amongst the temporarily displaced communities. It also encourages innovation for meeting potable, non-potable and agricultural water needs.

Why This Project?

  • Flood in north Bihar is a recurring disaster.
  • Lack of clean drinking water and sanitation facilities along with inadequate health facilities adversely affect the people, particularly women.

Target group

20 Villages in North Bihar covering about 46,000 people

Activities Planned:

  • Introducing the concept and technique of mobile rooftop rainwater harvesting to access safe drinking water during floods.
  • Popularizing rainwater harvesting as a supplementary water source in both flood prone and flood secluded areas for effectively overcoming the water problems at individual household level.
  • Strengthening the capacities of the local masses to carry out the proposed interventions independently at the community level.

Project status:

First phase satisfactorily completed.
