Implementing Sustainable WASH initiatives through PRIs & Women Federations

Location: 158 villages in 28 Panchayats will be selected in Thottiam blocks of Tiruchirapalli district in Tamil Nadu.

Summary 

The project focuses on providing protected water which will be managed by the village Panchayat and women federations. Hence, sanitation, waste water management, solid waste management etc. are important aspects of the project. The funds for building the toilets and water supply system are being accessed from the government.

Why This Project?

• To promote sustainable management of water resources..
• To increase the involvement of PRI, women Federation and community.

Target group

The poor households in the selected 158 villages with a population of about 63,750.

Activities Planned: 

• Formation of implementation committee involving the local community.
• Training and capacity building of the PRI and Federations for proper maintenance upkeep of water supply and sanitation systems.
  
• Increasing the coverage of sanitation facilities.
