Summary 

The project has two sub-projects that would be carried out in Bangalore-Rural district. The two sub-projects proposed in the Project would lead to development of approaches/technologies that would lead to:

1)    Non-consumptive use of water in rice cultivation through development of suitable rice-cultivars for semi-irrigated condition.
2)    Utilization of human liquid waste as source of plant nutrients in agriculture.

 

Why This Project?

  • To generate information/technology related to water-conservation in agriculture that will potentially serve a large population.

Target group

The primary beneficiaries would be two meritorious Students enrolled for Ph.D. programme at U.A.S. Bangalore. However, the research outcomes are expected to benefit the farming community in the State.

 

Activities Planned: 

 

For the first sub-project: 

  • Development of F4 population of introgressed lines for biotic, abiotic stress and culinary preferences in aerobic rice lines that save water during growth
  • Genetic analysis of rate of growth or crop vigor and dynamics of yield.
For the second sub-project:
  • To develop protocol on frequency and quantity of application of human liquid waste for selected crops.
  • To study the effect of application of human liquid waste on growth and yield of crops and economics of cultivation.
  • To study the effect of application of human liquid waste on physical, chemical and biological properties of soil.
