CEO

Jayamala Subramaniam comes with over two decades of experience in Strategy and Execution in Banking, Education, Agro-technology, ITES and Not for Profit sector, across countries. She has proven expertise in identifying and establishing transformational processes for scaling standalone start-ups and start up environments in established organizations. She is a certified Executive and Business Coach. She has a management degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

Bishwadeep Ghose

Director Programmes

Bishwadeep comes with over 20 years of experience in working on initiatives related to poverty alleviation and social exclusion. He has worked with participatory methodologies applied to forestry, agriculture and local health traditions with various intermediary organisations across India. Keenly interested in public policy as well as market-based approaches, he has designed several multi-actor programmes that strived for impact at scale and for co-creation of knowledge. With a background in science and management, he has also done short courses in political economy and international relations from the LSE, London. He joined Arghyam in July 2013 and is responsible for its Rural Water Programme.

Manu Srivastava

Director - Technology

Manu has over 21+ years’ experience with a passion for conceptualising, architecting, designing and delivering technology solutions having large scale social impact. He was a part of the start-up/founding team of eGovernments Foundation and played various roles in eGov’s journey including conceptualizing and creating product and solutions, identifying markets and geographies, building partnerships; building teams, skills and capabilities and client, product and delivery management. Manu helped developed and deliver solutions that have positively impacted more than 2.66 cr citizens and saved over 15000 man years of citizens & govt. employees. Manu is an alumnus from MNIT, Jaipur and IIM-Bangalore.

Suresh L Ponnappa

Director Finance

Suresh L Ponnappa comes with nearly two decades of professional experience in Financial Management and Administration working with corporate, government institutions, national and international development organisations. He graduated in Business Management and holds a Master’s Degree in Commerce and Human Resource Management. Prior to Arghyam, he was associated with Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (India), Centre for Environment Education-NFD, Tata Coffee Limited and Samraksha. As the Director of Finance, Suresh handles complete Finance, Administration and Human Resource management responsibilities at Arghyam.

Manohar Rao S

Senior Manager – Programmes

Manohar did his Masters in Agricultural Economics and holds a degree in Agriculture. He has worked on a variety of projects in the water sector for over two decades ranging from watershed development to irrigation water management to rural drinking water and sanitation. He is managing the field based projects supported by Arghyam since October 2005. He is Arghyam’s “man on the ground”. His understanding of the NGO sector and practical realities of implementation of projects are critical to Arghyam’s grant making activities.

Amrtha Kasturirangan

Senior Manager – Programmes

Amrtha holds a Masters in Environment Science and a degree in law. Her experience lies in environment and development policy research and advocacy for protection of natural resources (especially wetlands) and open spaces in urban areas. At Arghyam, Amrtha manages grant projects and is responsible for the analysis, collation of lessons, communication and dissemination of lessons learnt in the Grants Team. She also anchors ‘State of Sanitation’, an Arghyam project that aims to understand the government scheme for rural sanitation better.

Madhavi Purohit

Senior Manager – Programmes

Madhavi holds a Masters degree in Development Communication. She has experience in the development sector, working in fields such as water and sanitation, educational communication and health. Her specialisation is in communication and documentation. Before joining Arghyam, she was associated with the Water and Sanitation Management Organisation, Gujarat and the Development and Educational Communication Unit of the Indian Space Research Organisation in Ahmedabad. At Arghyam, Madhavi contributes to developing the overall communication strategy and documentation efforts, as well as the Behaviour Change Communication project within the Sanitation Programme.

Harshvardhan Dhawan

Senior Manager – Programmes

Harshvardhan holds a Masters degree in Environmental Science and a Post graduate course on Decentralised Water Supply & Sanitation from UNESCO-IHE, Delft, The Netherlands. He has 13+ years of experience in development sector specialising in hydrogeology, natural resources and environmental management, with a solid background in action research, training and capacity building, programme development, grant management and business planning. Harshvardhan is a Fulbright Scholar and also a Nuffic Fellow. He was last associated with ACWADAM as a Senior Scientist (Research, Grants and Programme Management). At Arghyam, Harshvardhan is responsible for groundwater programme in rural and urban areas, programme evaluation and knowledge management.

Priya Desai

Consultant – India Water Portal

Priya has a BA in Journalism, Psychology and English Literature, and is currently pursuing a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law from National Law School of India. She worked in the advertising industry for 6 years before moving to the development sector. Her role at Arghyam includes handling communication and outreach for India Water Portal, and working on the Behaviour Change Communication project within the Sanitation Programme at Arghyam.

Uzra Sultana

Manager – Programmes

Uzra completed Master of Science in Environmental Sciences from Bangalore University in the year 2004. The same year she joined Environmental Management & Policy Research Institute, a Society registered under Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment, Government of Karnataka, as a Research Associate until 2010. During July-Sept 2010, she worked for a Short-term Consultancy for the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP), New Delhi to study the Carbon footprinting of selected villages of Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, India. In 2011, she joined Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad and worked for almost two years as a Senior Research Associate in preparing City Sanitation Plans for selected eight cities of Karnataka. Since June 2013, she is working at Arghyam under the Urban WatSan Programme in developing approaches towards safe and sustainable WatSan solutions for Indian cities and towns.

Karthik Seshan

Manager – Programmes

Karthik holds an M.Sc. in Disaster Management from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering. Before pursuing his master’s, he worked as a Construction & Planning Engineer with Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd. He was associated with SaciWATERs, Hyderabad prior to joining Arghyam, where he coordinated activities of the Arsenic Knowledge and Action Network. At Arghyam, Karthik is part of the Rural Water team and handles projects on water quality, springs conservation, and decentralized groundwater management.

Running around with her hands full and thoughts occupied, her willingness to help in every situation makes life easy. She brings in more than ten years experience in administrative skills particularly in the development sector.

Ranjith Kumar

Manager – Accounts

Ranjith hails from Mangalore and holds a Masters degree in Commerce from Bangalore University. He is currently pursuing ICWAI (final). He works as an Accounts Officer at Arghyam and likes to play with numbers. He is new to the development sector. Ranjith enjoys playing cricket and listening to classical music. He likes to go trekking and is interested in adventure sports.

Priyadarshini Alexander

Manager – HR

riyadarshini comes with 10 years of experience delivering a diverse range of functions in human resource management. Her expertise and past experience comprise recruitment & induction, organisational management, and staff development and welfare. She worked for 7 years at The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLM) as Senior Manager HR & Administration, followed by 3 years in Samiti for Education Environment Social and Health Action (SEESHA). After graduating in Nutrition and Dietetics from Madras University, Priyadarshini completed her diploma in Hospital Management from Madurai Kamraj University and an MBA in HR & Hospital Management from IIBM, Meerut.

Ekansh Gupta

Manager Programmes

Ekansh Gupta is a post graduate in Rural Management from Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). He has interned with different organisations working on agriculture based producer collectives and solar irrigation pumps for small and marginal farmers. Before joining IRMA, he worked with Infosys Limited as a Senior Systems Engineer for 4 years in Hyderabad. He also used to plan CSR initiatives and work on Green Initiatives like Waste Management at Infosys Hyderabad campus. At Arghyam, he is a part of the WATSAN team.

Sukriti Mehta

Officer Programmes

Sukriti pursued a B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering, post which she worked in Infosys Limited in Mysore as a Data Warehouse Test Engineer for about 21 months. During the same time, she was also associated with Make A Difference as their HR Fellow for Mysore, which gave her a platform to work in the education sector. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management from Institute of Rural Management, Anand.

Sreechand Tavva

Officer – Technology

Sreechand leads technology strategy and manages technology partnerships at Arghyam. He brings in a mix of technology skills, development expertise, and sustainability knowledge from social impact sector. He got interested in technology-for-development during his winter internship with Carnegie Mellon University where he created educational games on language learning for rural school students. After that, he worked with a Bangalore-based tech-startup Artoo, where he designed user interfaces for micro-finance field agents. His interest in tapping networks, knowledge, and resources through technology took him to Essmart Global, where he worked as a product researcher, scouting for and evaluating the feasibility of life-improving products like solar lanterns and water purifiers in rural markets of Tamil Nadu. He has a Sustainability-focused M.A in Development degree from Azim Premji University and a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.

Surbhi Arul

Officer – Policy Research & Advocacy

Surbhi holds a Master in Public Policy from National Law School India University, Bengaluru and a Bachelor’s in Economics (Hons) from Christ University, Bengaluru. Prior to joining the development sector, she had a short stint in the Investment Banking sector as an Analyst. Her previous engagements have been with organizations like World Resources Institute and Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, in the capacity of an intern. At Arghyam, Surbhi engages in policy research, advocacy and communications.

Karthick is the cornerstone of the Admin team. No job is complete without his help and he is always available to make sure that the office is a comfortable place for others. He is an eager learner and willing to pick up new admin skills.

Prasad R Bhat

Prasad has a post graduate degree in Development Studies and has over seven years of experience of working in the development sector. He has previously worked with governments on diverse sectors such as water, sanitation, health and livelihoods. At Arghyam, Prasad contributes to developing solutions by engaging with partners and other ecosystem actors.

Gurudutt Ramchandra

Manager Solutions

Gurudutt holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunication from Bangalore Institute of Technology. He joins the solutions team at Arghyam with over 5+ years of diverse experience across for-profit and for-impact sectors. Prior to Arghyam, he has worked at Mu Sigma helping evangelise data-driven decision making in client organisations; at Samagra helping transform skilling and employment ecosystems in the Indian state of Haryana and has completed the 2-year Teach For India fellowship where he taught primary classrooms in a Govt. school in Bengaluru.
