BACKGROUND

Fluorosis continues to affect communities across several parts of India, creating long-term health challenges and increasing the need for stronger local capacities on water quality. While many civil society organisations work in affected regions, there was a need for structured learning that combined technical knowledge with practical guidance on fluorosis mitigation and engagement with government programmes.

SOLUTION

A structured learning programme that combined technical instruction, self-learning, and guided mentoring to strengthen civil society organisations working on fluorosis mitigation.

OUR APPROACH

Arghyam partnered with INREM Foundation to develop and deliver the Integrated Fluorosis Mitigation Foundational Course for civil society organisations across India. The programme combined instructional sessions, self-learning, and weekly guided mentoring on water quality standards, sampling procedures, health impacts, treatment options, and behaviour change communication.

The course also introduced participants to water quality management within Jal Jeevan Mission processes, including Village Action Plans and Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance systems. Learning resources such as Safe Water Cards were developed to support field-level engagement and simplify technical concepts.
