OUR APPROACH

Urban areas across India face growing challenges in managing water supply, sanitation, and wastewater systems. Expanding populations, aging infrastructure, and limited coordination between institutions often place increasing pressure on already stretched urban services.

Ensuring safe and reliable water and sanitation in cities requires strengthening how these systems are planned, governed, and maintained.

Arghyam’s work in urban WASH focuses on improving the understanding and management of water and sanitation systems in urban and peri-urban contexts. This includes supporting better planning, strengthening institutional capacity, and improving how services are monitored and delivered.

Urban water systems involve multiple actors, including municipal bodies, utilities, regulators, and communities. Strengthening coordination among these institutions is essential for improving service delivery.

Arghyam works with partners, practitioners, and research institutions to generate knowledge, test approaches, and support improved practices in urban water and sanitation management.

By strengthening institutional capacity and improving how urban systems function, this work contributes to more reliable and equitable water and sanitation services in cities.
